There's a ton of skill involved in flying your ship in battles: dodging missiles, avoiding forward guns of the enemy, strafing effectively, etc. trying to draw off a large portion of the attack force (leading it on a merry goose chase instead of engaging it) so your allies can mop up the rest.focusing your firepower on the same ships your allies are attacking, and taking out weak ships first, or.just cloaking and letting others fight) while also making sure that if the player plays strategically, a good fraction of the time the battle will be won without all the player's allies ending up dead.īattles are designed so that the player needs to have good tactics in order to win them. I generally try to balance the battles such that there's no chance of the player winning without doing anything (e.g. Because so much of how the battle goes depends on the initial (random) locations of the ships, it's inevitable that sometimes you'll end up with an unwinnable fight and have to reload, and sometimes it'll be much easier.
